The Due West market is a classic country store and sophisticated tavern in a refurbished building dating back to 1865, which stocks picnic essentials (sandwiches, salads, charcuterie, cheese and wine) and serves tasty West Marin fare. Olema House’s expansive great lawn is as equally spellbinding as its stylish, rustic-chic architecture. Obtaining serenity amid its distinctive Bohemian charm and the on-site national forest landscape is as natural as a Marin County sunset.

Property practices

Olema House’s two dining options couldn’t be any more beautifully dissimilar. Due West Tavern boasts an extravagant yet pleasingly familiar setting that’s equally welcoming and romantic. Meanwhile, Due West Market is one of the area’s newest ventures, a one-stop-shop for caffeine, lunch, merch, and keepsakes.

This tavern oozes this special feeling that I can only describe as a combo between vintage glam, contemporary and a touch of dark academia. The staff is friendly, and had a place to safely lock our touring bicycles. The restaurant next door, which seems to be affiliated with the hotel, looks like a bar, but has surprisingly good food. Whether you’re looking for something to base your next gingerbread house on or just need some inspo for this year’s construction, peruse these 20 gingerbread house ideas as you build out your own sugar fantasy this holiday season. As with any DIY project, creating a gingerbread house takes some serious planning. You’ll likely need to do some sketches and crunch some numbers before the baking stage begins. This craft is not one to do hastily, cookie masonry will definitely take up a few hours, but the eye-catching results will pay off in the end, even if you have a mini mental breakdown halfway through the construction. In 1812 Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published one of their most famous stories. Hansel and Gretel are left to stave in the woods by their cruel mother as their woodcutter father is unable to provide for the family.

Mytheresa and Flamingo Estate Open a Holiday House Made of Gingerbread

Look to lace for gingerbread house ideas that will stand out from the rest. Gingerbread houses are about combining imaginary with reality by recreating real life items in whimsical ways using something sweet. Sometimes giving a gingerbread house a paint job doesn’t mean pulling out the icing or making a whole new kind of cookie dough. Rather, all it takes is some candies or, for Boake and her pink Victorian house, pink strawberry Pocky snacks that she found at an Asian mall to create rosy wood slating. Each year, the Museum of Architecture in London hosts a Gingerbread City featuring a menagerie of architectural confections full of inspiration for your next gingerbread house.

LOS ANGELES — A gingerbread house in California has received several offers after being listed on Zillow for a mere $1.9 million. This off-the-wall idea to create a real gingerbread house started last summer when the forces behind Mytheresa and Flamingo Estate collaborated to open a temporary Summer Body Shop inside an auto body shop in East Hampton, N.Y. Call this December-delightful outing a lovely complement to any storybook house tours you've taken around town (yes, storybook or witch houses are something rather different than the gingerbread house, though the fanciful forms have plenty in common, spirit-wise). But you'd need a truckload of candy to deck these adorable abodes, for several of LA's gingerbread houses stand at two stories or more. Outside of L.A., there’s also a life-size gingerbread houses in Madison Square Park in Manhattan, while Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco boasts the largest in the state with their two-story house, complete with a dining room that seats up to 12 guests. The record for the largest gingerbread house, however, was set in 2013 in Bryan, Texas, where it seems like I’ve heard everything is bigger.

Did you know that you don’t have to stick with regular gingerbread dough when making a gingerbread house? Other doughs can provide a different color or tone to your house, like this cardamom cookie dough that food stylist and recipe developer Judy Kim made for Epicurious in 2020. “The cookie provides a bright background for the decor, which skips the classic candy overload, and focuses instead on cool-toned shimmer and shine,” Kim told Epicurious.

Safe House Cast: Denzel Washington as Tobin Frost

Frost leaves Weston, who passes out from blood loss.Barlow kills Linklater and travels to the safe house where he reveals that he is Vargas' employer. He confirms that the file contains incriminating evidence against him, and encourages Weston to lie about what has happened. Frost returns and kills Vargas' team but is fatally wounded by Barlow. As he dies, Frost gives Weston the file, saying he is a better man than Frost. Weston contacts Ana, giving her a cover story that his office has been threatened and suggesting she stay with friends when it appears their apartment is under surveillance. Barlow tells Weston to go to Cape Town Stadium where he retrieves a GPS device containing the location of another safe house, but Frost creates a diversion and escapes.

When the safe house is attacked by mercenaries, Weston flees with Frost in his charge. As the team of killers, who seem to be one step ahead of the pair, track them throughout Cape Town, Weston wonders who to trust. Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Rubén Blades, Nora Arnezeder and Robert Patrick co-star. When the safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative escapes with him.

Denzel Washington

In Cape Town, South Africa, junior CIA officer Matt Weston is serving as a "housekeeper", an operative in charge of securing and maintaining a local CIA safe house in case of an operation. He calls his mentor and immediate superior, David Barlow, and inquires about a station in Paris, where he hopes to follow his live-in girlfriend Ana, a young French physician about to start her residency. Barlow tells him he is likely underqualified for the position, which frustrates Matt as he has not had a "houseguest" during his year long tenure, and thus has been unable to gain field experience. Safe House is a 2012 American action thriller film directed by Daniel Espinosa, written by David Guggenheim, and starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.

The cast members of Safe House have been in many other movies, so use this list as a starting point to find actors or actresses that you may not be familiar with. A rookie CIA operative goes on the run with a rogue former intelligence officer after a South African safe house comes under attack by heavily armed mercenaries. In Safe House, a promising CIA officer named Matt Weston chases after a legendary rogue agent, Tobin Frost. The men initially clash but then team up to expose a high-level intelligence conspiracy. Weston hopes to balance his personal and professional lives but learns that it’s simply impossible given his line of work. The Safe House cast features Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds and Vera Farmiga.

Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead. At some point in the tense, tough, visceral action movie “Safe House” a side character describes a rogue superagent played by Denzel Washington as “the black Dorian Gray.” Now that’s a movie pitch in waiting. Mr. Washington, or rather the mystery man he plays, Tobin Frost, a former operative for the C.I.A., lets out a short self-aware laugh of a man who isn’t just fielding a compliment but also owning it fully.

Robert Patrick

Weston, detained by the police, escapes and is forced to fire at them.Frost escape gets reported. After hearing that Weston fired at the police, Linklater orders him to visit the nearest American embassy for debriefing. When Whitford tells him, "We'll take it from here", Weston decides to pursue Frost himself as Frost had warned him that when he heard that sentence ("we'll take it from here") that was when Weston should become concerned about his own safety. En route, Linklater suggests that Weston has joined Frost, which Barlow refutes.

Like a lot of contemporary action directors Mr. Espinosa tends to cut among several scenes, switching not simply between two scenes but also upward of four. In lesser hands this kind of editing scheme can devolve into visual and narrative chaos, as the filmmaker whiplashes from one location to another, sometimes for no apparent reason. Did or didn’t Frost betray his country is the question that the credited screenwriter David Guggenheim and Daniel Espinosa, the young, up-and-coming Swedish director, put into nimble play almost as soon as “Safe House” gets going. And, after some low-key place setting in Cape Town, where Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), an untested C.I.A. agent, is watching over a company safe house, the movie takes off like a shot.

A team led by veteran Daniel Kiefer transfers Frost to Weston's safe house in order to interrogate him for intelligence before he is returned to the US. The mercenaries, led by Vargas, attack the safe house and kill Kiefer and his team. A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. For example, while you might continue to wake up early on your cruise to exercise or meditate, you can also indulge in daytime naps whenever you feel like it, or have a cocktail — or two! Small indulgences taken steadily throughout your trip can make the travel experience feel like more of a break from the ordinary. If the cruise you were on when you purchased the Book Later certificate was booked through a travel agency their phone number appears on the Book Later email. The Book Later certificate has probably already been assigned to that travel agency so you may or may not be able to call Royal directly. If you are trying to reach a guest onboard the ship, you can make a call to their stateroom and optionally leave a message. Of course, it requires the guest to be in the room to answer the call and/or check the voicemail.

Make A Short Trip Feel Long

Once reservations are linked together, you can purchase and reserve cruise add-ons for those guests in other staterooms. This is helpful when trying to reserve a specific dining time with guests outside your cabin. For those who prioritize adventure in their lives, no amount of exploration is enough. Others want to be able to hit the road — or the open sea — without depleting days they need for family holidays such as Thanksgiving.

Using your cell phone

If you’re planning to treat yourself to a day at the Vitality Spa, consider reserving a treatment on the Cruise Planner prior to your cruise. If one person in a cabin purchases a Deluxe Beverage Package, all adults in the room must also purchase the package. That being said, Royal Caribbean often makes an exception to this rule if the second adult in a room does not consume alcohol. Buying everyone an internet package is still cheaper than the roaming charges you would incur using your cell carrier, and more than likely there's a common (and free) app you can all agree to use.

Forcing them to buy a drink package

He oversees all the writers at Royal Caribbean Blog, and writes a great deal of content on a daily basis. If there's one waste of time in trying to get customer service, it's posting a lengthy message about your problem with the cruise line on a forum or message board. Time and time again, I see anecdotal evidence from Royal Caribbean Blog readers who reach out to Mr. Bayley via email and get a prompt response.

When I have a question or problem, the first person I turn to is my travel agent for help and it saves me so much time. If you manage to get time off, whether paid or unpaid, you can make your trip happen. If you're traveling with a partner, however, or with school-age children, you'll need to do more preparation. You can also choose to take a cruise if you only have a long weekend or holiday weekend available.

Internet

This is especially true when there is something out of the ordinary occurring, such as a new cruise booking release, weather impact to existing cruises, etc. Once your cruise documents are ready, just email your loved one a copy. The packet includes your booking confirmation number, itinerary, stateroom assignments, how to reach the ship in an emergency, how to reach Royal Caribbean, etc. It would include any information that a loved one would need in the event of an emergency. The key, no matter your circumstances, is being strategic — both in terms of using weekends and holidays to your advantage, as well as using your time wisely as you travel.

Anyone who loves their personal space will find that separate beds will go a long way toward improving the energy of their vacation. For friends who are sharing a cabin, but need some personal space, splitting the beds apart is a great hack. Royal Caribbean staterooms have at least one bed that can be adjusted. You can either bring the beds together to create a Royal King or split them into two twin beds. When two people have different preferences or budgets for a vacation they’re both looking forward to, they’re likely to clash.

VOOM SURF & STREAM is the highest speed internet package which supports web browsing and streaming videos on sites like YouTube, Netflix, etc. This add-on must be purchased before your cruise and is priced per person, per day. Depending on the sailing, you can find The Key priced anywhere from $20 to $35 per person, per day. Royal Caribbean’s Vitality Fitness Center is complimentary for guests, but fitness classes come at an extra charge. You can reserve these classes once onboard or purchase a class package on the Cruise Planner.

Some readers also reported having to uninstall and then re-install the Royal Caribbean app to get it working, even with the password reset. According to reports by Royal Caribbean Blog readers, it affects both the Royal Caribbean app and website. Start your vacation with a beverage in your hand from the moment you get onboard. Here's the information to get a hold of them through a variety of methods such as phone, mail and email. If your cruise was cancelled by the cruise line, you can avoid waiting on the phone to cancel by using an online form. If you want a FCC, there is nothing extra to do, as it will automatically be selected for you by a certain date.

There is no cost to use Royal Caribbean's app (this changed in 2023, as there used to be a charge). To make a phone call over WiFi, put your device into airplane mode and connect to Voom via WiFi. I don't recommend this option at all because of the crazy high prices carriers charge for roaming. I mention it purely because it exists, and some people have work phones that don't care about running up a bill. Booking entertainment, making a final payment, and taking advantage of a good promotion on a pre-cruise offer are all able to be done by contacting Royal Caribbean by phone.

Depending on your ability to overcome jet lag and what flights depart from the city you live in, you might even be able to swing a weekend trip to Europe. Growing up traveling around the world, she developed a passion for diversity and cross-cultural communication. From her first cruise on Wonder of the Seas, she has delighted in the intersection between travel, diversity, and writing in the cruising world. But it’s important to set realistic expectations, both for yourself and with the people you’re traveling with.

Likewise, if you work on a small team and have a colleague out on leave, you might not be able to take unpaid time off at all. Some jobs may also let you work on a company holiday and use that time off on another date that fits better into your vacation plans. To avoid fighting over the phone charger, plan ahead by bringing a cruise-safe power strip or a power bank. Honesty is really the best policy when it comes to spending on a cruise.

Norwegian Cruise Ship MS Maud Loses Power at Sea; Rescue Mission Underway

Two civilian support vessels are aiding the ship in its journey to port, Danish rescue authorities said. A possible rogue wave sent headlines around the world last week after it broke windows on a cruise ship off the coast of Argentina, killing a woman and injuring four others. The cruise line initially reported no serious injuries, but German media reported that three passengers were taken to a hospital upon disembarking. Dramatic footage obtained by MailOnline shows the exact moment the freak wave hit, leaving the ship impossible to navigate and requiring a tow to Germany.

The rogue wave shattered windows on the ship's bridge, which caused water to enter the vessel and resulted in a power outage, Reuters reported. Terrifying footage has emerged of panicked passengers bracing aboard a Norwegian cruise ship that lost power when it was hit by a rogue wave in the North Sea. A Norwegian cruise ship with more than 250 passengers on board lost power on Thursday, Dec. 21, after the vessel encountered a rogue wave during a storm, the cruise company HX said. The Norwegian cruise ship MS Maud temporarily lost power on Thursday after encountering the rogue wave. Its operator, Hurtigruten Expedition, said in a statement that the 266 guests and 131 crew were uninjured and that the vessel, initially headed for the English port of Tilbury, would be diverted to Bremerhaven, Germany, for disembarkation.

"The condition of the ship remains stable and the crew are able to sail under their own power," a spokesperson for HX said. Danish Search and Rescue said the vessel could "maneuver via emergency systems, and it has two civilian support vessels close by." Hurtigruten told the outlet in a statement that no serious injuries resulted from the rogue wave.

The main engine is functioning but the navigation systems and radars are not,” a spokesperson for the centre, which is responsible for coordinating search and rescue operations, said. The vessel carrying 266 passengers and 131 crew suffered shattered windows on its bridge when it encountered a powerful storm in the North Sea late Thursday, Danish authorities said. “The captain came on immediately to let us know what had happened, that the boat was stable, we had coast guard support and that the chances of needing to evacuate were minimal,” she told The Post of the moment the ship regained power. “The wave essentially hit us side-on and just exploded up over the top of the ship,” MacRae told The Post Friday.

The MS Maud, which is run by the cruise company HX, a unit of Norway’s Hurtigruten Group, left Floroe in Norway on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive in Tilbury in Great Britain on Friday. “I’ll be honest, there was about 20 minutes yesterday where I thought the ship might capsize, it was rolling so heavily and we didn’t have any idea what had happened,” she said. Everyone on board was marked safe, and the ship is being towed to Bremerhaven in Germany, officials with the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said. Every time we move we nearly go flying,” one passenger commented under Hansen’s post.

The ship's 266 passengers and 131 crew members were safe, a spokesperson for the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (DJRC) confirmed, adding that a vessel from civil rescue firm Esvagt had managed to connect a tow line to the cruise ship. The luxury cruise ship, which was carrying 400 passengers and crew, had started a 14-day Northern Lights expedition sailing from Tilbury on December 9 and was due to return to the Essex port on December 23. According to multiple reports, rescue company Esvagt’s support vessels helped the ship navigate until it could be pulled to port. “Earlier this afternoon, December 21, MS Maud reported a temporary loss of power after encountering a rogue wave,” Hurtigruten, Norwegian coastal ferry service and cruise line, said in an emailed statement, per The Guardian.

Despite the power outage, the vessel's main engine was still functioning, enabling the ship to be steered manually from the engine room. The holidaymaker, who expected it was going to be a 'rough ride' after going over several other big waves, described how passengers, fixed tables and chairs were sent sliding across the floor. MS Maud was sailing some 162 miles off Denmark's west coast and about 217 miles off Britain's east coast when the monster wave shattered its windows on the bridge. “There is no power on the ship,” the center’s spokesperson told the outlet. “The main engine is functioning but the navigation systems and radars are not." A spokesperson for HX, a unit of Norway's Hurtigruten Group, told FOX Business that the ship is sailing to Bremerhaven, Germany, for disembarkation.

"At this time, the ship has confirmed that no serious guest or crew injuries have been sustained as a result of the incident," the spokesperson said. "The condition of the ship remains stable, and the crew are able to sail under their own power." "The situation is stable, the ship has propulsion and they are able to navigate the ship manually via emergency systems," the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said in a statement Friday local time.

While the waters of the North Sea can be turbulent, marine experts said it's generally safe for the hundreds of thousands of ships that pass through every year. If the captain thought so, he would have asked to be evacuated which he hasn’t,” the rescue centre spokesperson said. A towage vessel from the civil rescue company Esvagt was scheduled to arrive at the ship around 2230 GMT. The 266 passengers and 131 crew members were safe, according to the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. The nation's water and infrastructure authority said that was also a first.

The Spirit of Discovery cut short its two-week voyage and headed back to Portsmouth early to avoid the oncoming tempest when punishing winds and choppy waters caught up with it. 'An Esvagt ship is towing it slowly towards Bremerhafen in Germany at around 8-9 knots,' the spokesperson said. The couple planned to travel back to Hamburg for an early morning flight to Frankfurt and then finally back to the UK, where they expected to arrive in London on Christmas Eve. The company said that falling trees damaged overhead electric wires or blocked tracks largely in northern Germany, but also in the central state of Hesse. The MS Maud’s on-board technology makes her “exceptionally well-suited” to trips through Norway and the British Isles, the company boasted.

In Hamburg, the Elbe River flooded streets around the city's fish market, with water waist-high in places. German authorities warned of a storm surge of up to three meters (nearly 10 feet) or more above mean high tide on parts of the North Sea coast on Friday. The ship’s main engine is still functioning, so the vessel can be steered from the engine room. Another clip shared on X showed the view of the terrifying swells from the glamorous windows of an on-board suit, which tilted precariously toward the water between each wave.

Those on board the ship, which belongs to cruise company HX, a unit of Norway's Hurtigruten Group, said a big clean-up operation was underway today. Pictures shared with MailOnline show the destruction caused by the wave, including a shop where the windows had been smashed in and products were left strewn across the floor. They also added that their team is arranging the travel for guests onboard to return home. On Sunday, he said, a rescue ship was alongside the Maud to provide navigation aid after the ship was diverted to Bremerhaven, Germany. Among the passengers were Brian Launder, 75, and his wife, Carole, who was celebrating her 70th birthday with their first-ever cruise, according to the outlet.

Meanwhile, Danish Joint Rescue Coordination confirmed that no one was harmed and the passengers and crew members were safe. We were talking to the officers and they estimated the waves were 15 to 20 meters,” he said. "Our team are working to arrange onward travel back home for guests onboard," a spokesperson for the company said. The ship, owned by Hurtigruten Expeditions, had even left port early and skipped several stops to try and stay ahead of the storm. But they were in the middle of the North Sea when heart-stopping wave came crashing down around 4 p.m. Because of a lack of navigational abilities, the ship had to be steered manually from the engine room, per the news agency.

A rogue wave terrified cruise ship passengers on the North Sea on Thursday as it towered over and tossed the ship, Tour Operator Thorsten Hansen told TMX. 'At this time, the ship has confirmed that no serious guest or crew injuries have been sustained as a result of the incident. The condition of the ship remains stable and the crew are able to sail under their own power. Other stomach-churning footage shared by passengers showed just how choppy the conditions were, with the ship seen aggressively rocking up and down as it was ravaged by huge waves. “At this time, the ship has confirmed that no serious passenger or crew injuries have been sustained as a result of the incident and the condition of the ship remains stable,” they added.

Outbound flight times don't always dovetail perfectly with your cruise line's disembarkation time, so you might find yourself with time to kill at the airport. You can also bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass. Delta also offers a companion certificate via several of its American Express-branded credit cards. Miami International Airport is just a short drive — about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic — from the cruise port.
